"Courageous: The Movie"

...last Friday night, we had our first family date. Matt's dad started taking a Bible study at church and gave Matt the movie, "Courageous" for us to watch. We all headed downstairs and laid out blankets and pillows to cuddle together. Of course, AR didn't watch the movie (we don't want her watching tv right now, down the road probably but for now we don't want to overstimulate her and we don't want to use it as a "babysitter") but she got lots of snuggles and love from her Mom and Dad.

The movie is about four policemen (and dads) experiencing their day to day lives. In a tragic twist of events, one of the men begins to evaluate how he's doing as a dad. He starts to study the Bible and decides to follow what he learns to lead him in being a father. His friends all jump on board and decide to do the same thing.

I thought it was a great movie although watching it one week postpardum was NOT a good idea because I was a blubbering mess. I even went so far to cry about not wanting AR to leave for school or have her get married! I would definitely recommend this for all new parents, well, really all parents in general but just be prepared to cry. Even Matt was on the floor kissing her forehead throughout the movie telling her to take her time growing up.

So far this is the only "parenting" book/movie we've read/watched that actually makes sense and isn't controversial! Oh and thanks for all the comments on the breastfeeding posts, I really appreciate all the tips. 

"The Descendants"...

...I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year! I'm in Florida, honestly just chilling out, eatin a lot and visiting my mom. Today, both of us and her two girlfriends went and saw "The Descendants" with George Clooney-yum! Ironically, when I was here for New Year's two years ago, we went to a movie on New Year's Day and George Clooney was also in that!

Summary: "With his wife Elizabeth on life support after a boating accident, Hawaiian land baron Matt King takes his daughters on a trip from Oahu to Kauai to confront the young real estate broker, who was having an affair with Elizabeth before her misfortune."

Review: First off, let me say that it is rated R. Now even though I'm almost 30, going to a movie where the f-bomb is dropped every other sentence and some really off-cuff comments are made, still makes me blush! It is also listed as a comedy/drama. Yes...TONS of drama. As for the comedy, not so much. I mean there is comedic relief but definitely not enough to list it as a comedy.

I think had I gone and seen this with my girlfriends or my husband, I may have liked it more but sitting in the theater with my mom and her two super conservative friends, I was thinking the whole time, "OMG! I can't believe they just said that!" The movie was also super slow moving but it still made me cry...a lot. Let's blame it on the pregnancy hormones, shall we?

OH! Also, I was super pumped because I got the student rate and my mom was super excited because she got the senior rate. Neither of us met the criteria for either but when my mom went to order the tickets, she said senior out of habit and said a child for me. I was like, "Umm....I don't think they'll think I'm a child!" We didn't realize until we got into the theater and saw our tickets that I got the student rate. I'm glad I still look like a young, college kid! :)

This would not be my typical movie pic but Matt called me on Friday afternoon and said, "Let's do dinner and a movie." Sweet! We headed over to our favorite Chinese restaurant, placed our order then walked to the Dollar Store to stock up on candy and bottled soda for the movie. Then we headed to the movie theater where we were like 10 minutes late but didn't miss any of the movie, just previews. It was seriously perfect timing.

Anyways, this is a great movie for both guys and gals. Good action and lots of blowing stuff up for the men and, of course, the romance and drama for the ladies. There was one really sad part but I won't give it away. At one point, the FBI comes to this guy's house and he meets his wife and kids there. The wife didn't ever have a speaking role but you could totally tell by the look on her face she was pissed. Matt and I both looked at each other at the same time to make a comment, it was funny. So if you're looking for a date night movie, pick "Red"...you and your man (or woman) will love it!

Black Friday and New Moon Review...

...Whew! I survived my second Black Friday at the mall. I worked early this morning (7-11am) and it was an interesting morning. When I got there at 6:30am, the mall seemed to be just like a typical busy Saturday afternoon but then starting about 7am it got CRAZY!!! My official job was to tell people to not go past the red dot until it was your turn at the register...if I say so myself, I think I did a good job (no one yelled at me during my three hour shift). I saw three Black Friday shirts. One was homemade tye-dye and the front said Black Friday and the back said Hussellin' and Bussellin'. The other shirts I saw were screen printed and said Black Friday Ninjas then on the back, it had their names such as Samuri Sarah and Ninja Nesha. I saw one lady who had a binder that said "Christmas 2009" and inside it had dividers with each person's name-OMG! I thought I was organized!!! Then one lady let another lady go in front of her in line because she only had one little item. After the lady checked out, she turned around and gave the lady her change which was almost $5!!! Good things happen to good people.

Tonight I went to see New Moon with my mom, my friend Laura and her sister Sarah. Matt was originally supposed to go with me but he was having too much fun with "the boys" (my stepdad, stepbrother and stepbrother's brother-in-law...follow all that???) so my mom took his place. It was definately much better than Twilight but Bella drives me CRAZY!!! Maybe its because in the book, you can tell what she's thinking and feeling but in the movie, she seems so irritated and totally over Edward. It seemed like she was more into Jacob than Edward in this movie. OH! Whenever Jacob took off his shirt, ALL the girls in the movie theater (majority high school age) freaked out....ooo, ahh...that's seriously what they did every time he took his shirt off!!! Good thing Matt decided not to go.

Definately the books are MUCH MUCH better!!!
