Mardi Gras...

...Trivia Night! If you think I went downtown to freeze my tail off outside then you're crazy!!! Instead, we went to a Trivia Night...again, we didn't do so hot BUT I tore it up in round two getting 8/10!!! They listed characters from a book and you had to list the title (they were all classics). My mom, the librarian, was so proud of me when I told her that!!! Here are a couple of pics from the evening.

Here's Matt, Josie and Jenni in Mardi Gras gear!

In this pic, Matt is holding up the yummy treats I made. Oreo Truffles (or deer turds as my in-law family calls them...long story) and chocolate covered rice krispie treats. Shadow tried to eat a leftover one on Sunday snatching it right out of Matt's hand...Matt was not happy and neither was I when he volunteered me to stick my hand in his mouth to get it out! EWWW!!!

Update on the pups...first off, Emma has her head on my shoulder as I type this. She's approving everything I type. Secondly, Shadow is officially heartworm free but the little booger weights 103.5 pounds!!! So he's officially on a hardcore diet now! Matt took him to the farm this weekend and brought him home stinkin'. Well, its too cold to wash him outside and our tub isn't in the best shape right now so I was going to take him to a place where you can wash your dog. They were going to charge me $20 for ME to wash me OWN DOG!!! So I called Petco and it was $33 for THEM to wash him. He's there now...I told them good luck before I left!!!

John...

..."I need you to take me to Urgent Care?" Yes, that was the line that ended our family dinner last night. We were at Matt's parents for his sister's birthday. As we were all sitting around the dining room table enjoying dessert, his mom walked in from the kitchen and said with a swollen tongue, "John, I need you to take me to Urgent Care?" All three kids and their dad jumped up running around to take her. I sat at the table with Matt's sister's new boyfriend who was meeting the family for the first time and said to him, "Welcome to the family! Our dinners aren't usually this exciting."

So she went to Urgent Care whiling breaking out in hives and they stablized her breathing, then took her via ambulance to the hospital. This all started at 7:30pm and by 10pm she was released from the hospital. The cause? No one knows except they think it was a food allergy. She couldn't pinpoint anything she'd eaten that she hadn't had before so she has to contact an allergist to get a test. Needless to say, it was definately an eventful night and one to remember!

Peanut Butter...

...bathroom time, peanut butter bathroom time!

The bathroom is coming along nicely and...it might actually be done by Valentine's!!! The plumbing guy is coming Monday and Tuesday so that'll be done, we have some other people coming to install the shower walls and then all Matt has left to do is finish painting (hopefully tonight), tile the floor and install a shower door! Okay, so maybe it won't be finished by Valentine's Day but pretty darn close and by Wednesday, I won't have to share a vanity with Matt anymore!

Okay, so the best part of this whole bathroom (and to explain the title)...Matt loves me so much and he painted the walls peanut butter! I can't wait to put pics up when this project is finished...hopefully....SOON!!!

The Last Lecture...

...by Randy Pausch. It was nation-wide coverage this past summer that I breezed over not really looking too into the article about Professor Randy Pausch and his infamous "Last Lecture." Then Matt's teacher assigned them to watch this lecture for extra credit and know what the head fakes were. We sat down to watch it together this afternoon and wow! The whole series was based on top professors thinking about what was really important and what their final lecture would be. Randy Pausch was asked to join the series to find out that this really was his last lecture and that he had terminal cancer.

It was an awesome lecture about living out your childhood dreams and while some of it touched on his area of education, it all tied into living a good life and doing what you wanted to do. It's a little over an hour long but well, well worth it. Maybe this is what I needed to get out of my funk right now...

Love me tender...

...love the food! So we went on a roadtrip this weekend to Memphis, TN! We saw three of the four restaurants on Man vs. Food and ate at two of them.

For dinner we went to Gus' Fried Chicken. Long wait, small restaurant, yummy chicken and a bit spicy too!!!

For lunch, we went to Rendezvous...four thumbs DOWN from all of us!!! Service was horrible and the price was outrageous! I mean it was what you would pay at any restaurant for a meal but the food portions were small (probably right sized but overpriced). Don't get me wrong, my bbq sandwich was good BUT $8 for a sandwich and two bites of beans and two bites of slaw plus an extra dollar for a pickle because there was no side besides pickles that I liked...come on! (I'm not a bean or slaw person and, brace yourself, they didn't have french fries!). Chad ordered a full order of ribs for $18 and it was like a half order that you would get most places. So decent food but bad prices.

What's a trip to Memphis w/o stopping by Graceland? We didn't go in, not at $20/person...we were trying to watch our pennies, ended up watching them fly right out our wallets. So Matt tried to help me scale the wall to see the King!

Then we got home from our trip today and took the doggies for a walk since they'd been cooped up. Well, this is the aftermath of a walk post snow. Now, they are again cooped up in the basement so our entire house isn't covered in mud! Notice my jean leg...yes, Shadow was sitting and turned to run and ran smack into me hitting my bad knee that I've already had surgery on and knocking me to the ground. Then both dogs were worried about me and stepping on me with mud and Matt had to shoo them away. Then Emma ran and started play fighting with Shadow for knocking me over! Yeah Emma!

Hope everyone has a great Super Bowl Sunday!!!
