T-Shirt Quilt...

...my mother, the quilter, made me a t-shirt quilt MANY moons ago! It has everything from soccer jerseys when I was a wee little one to high school activity shirts to sorority and college shirts to shirts from vacations. For some reason, everyone seems to be talking about t-shirt quilts lately so I thought I'd share what mine looked like:

Front:
Back (or front...it doesn't really matter!):

Even a Brownie troop shirt made it on there! Anyone remember "Hands Across America"? My shirt made it on there. Side story: My sister made the cover of Newsweek for "Hans Across America" back in 1986. The story goes that the magazine sat on our coffee table and everyone that came over commented on it. One time, I walked up to the guest at our house (no idea who) and 3 or 4 year old me opened the magazine and said, "I'm in here too. See!" I was pointing at this starving Ethiopian child! My family NEVER lets me live that one down.

Anyways, I LOVE bright colors, all the quilts my mom makes for me has bright, bright colors...even our wedding quilt (that'll be a post for another day!). And I couldn't break it down to specific shirts because I wanted them all so that's why there's so many. I love it and while it stays in the closet most of the time, it does come out on fall/winter days when it gets cold but not cold enough to turn the heat on yet.

Well, mom is retired and has bought her own quilting machine, remember this post? So if you're interested in a t-shirt quilt, drop me a line and I'll get you in contact with Quilting Vick (that used to be her screen name-how appropriate!). She is enjoying her retirement though spending lots of time in Florida so it may take awhile for her to finish the project but hey, if your shirts have been in a box since high school then what's the hurry, right?

I actually need something like this done with all my hard rock cafe shirts that are too big on me but I don't want to depart with. Too bad I didn't put two and two together when I met your mom at the party but I should totally see if she could do one for me!!

Cute quilt! I've thought about getting one of these made for Shine. Not sure if Shine would be willing to let me do this to some of his shirts, but I might ask. How much would your mom charge to make a t-shirt quilt? If you could email me or send me a message on FB, that would be good. Thanks!! :-)

Cute, thanks for sharing your blanket. I just started sorting t-shirts for a quilt. Someday. It might still be a little early for that, we have 4 more years of high school.

I didn't know this was a hip thing to do right now. I've been thinking about asking my aunt to make me a quilt using some of my dad's t-shirts for the baby's nursery so he can be there in spirit, so to speak. My sisters divided them up and I only have three, so I'm not sure if that's enough for a quilt. Seeing your quilt helps me visualize it and I think I might go for it now.

I have seen those before and think they are a great idea. I hope your mom gets lots of work and enjoys the AC during the hot Florida summers.
