The Great Pumpkins...

...I was off work on Friday with really nothing to do. I called my SIL around lunchtime and invited her over for chili and pumpkin carving. I started to make the chili and had opened a can of beans when I remembered, "Crap! EB doesn't eat like beans." Umm...I set the open can of beans in the sink, continued browning the burger and thought. I knew you could buy cans of chili with no beans but I had no idea what was in it. I wondered if it was just really chili minus beans but then that just seemed like tomatoes and meat. I went to Allrecipes and searched "chili with no beans" and only one recipe came up. Now, of course, when I went back to get the recipe so I could link it here...like 50 entries came up and not the one I used!?! Basically, it was similiar to what I normally use except for beans you put in potatoes. Hmm...I tried it out and I actually LOVED it! I don't think I'd put the potatoes in EVERY time but maybe from time to time. So there's a new idea for ya.

After dinner, we all picked the pumpkins up from the front porch and headed around back. Matt had us put newspapers down to cover the table...excellent idea, babe! Clean up took about 2 seconds! Here's Matt and EB cleaning out the innerds of their pumpkins.EB actually cleaned out mine because I cut my hole a little small and she had the smallest hands. Shadow, of course, was a little begger boy and wanted to eat the insides!!! I snuck a handful of pumpkin guts and buried it in the garden. I hope I grow some pumpkins next year!!! Do you see his tongue sticking out as he licks his lips?
Here is mine halfway done...I was afraid I hadn't left room for a mouth but I fit it in there. Looks like mine has a teardrop under his left eye...I just noticed that!See the mouth fit! Here's Emma and Shadow with mine...don't mind their timid faces, I was yelling at them because they were trying to eat my pumpkin! After we carved, we hung out by the "bonfire" Matt had started. I wish I knew he'd planned this because I would've got s'more stuff instead we just tried to stay warm. I got yelled out because I have a tendency to put too much wood on and then the fire gets really BIG! Oops...I got banned from putting anything else in.
And now for our finished products...Matt's:
EB's, hers wouldn't stay up straight so her's was put on its side:
And last but not least...MINE!!! I went for the traditional look.
After the lighting of the pumpkins, we headed inside to watch the newest Halloween Michael Meyers' movie. We only watched about half before calling it a night. It was a fun way to spend a Friday evening and it was a cheap night too!

How fun! We usually carve pumpkins but didn't have time this year.

Looks like fun. We did not have time to carve pumpkins this year, but made plenty of construction paper ones.

We didn't do pumpkins this year, either - so glad to see someone else was in the Halloween spirit! Thanks for sharing.

I have actually NEVER carved a pumpkin before. I feel like I missed out after seeing yours!! They're so cute! And I love the pic of your pups after you yelled at them, haha.

I haven't carved a pumpkin in years - I always get really excited and start with gusto and then get bored and frustrated when I remember how hard it is LOL. My friend had a great idea - she carved a "pi" symbol in hers.
