Luxuries...

...you know you don't realize you have them until you don't. Yesterday at work, I went to the bathroom and stood up realizing that the toilet didn't flush on it's own. I didn't think too much about it, flushed it and went on my business. About 30 minutes later, a co-worker comes in and comments about the same thing and I thought I was the only one who noticed. Oh the small luxuries we have...don't worry a new sensor is coming for it tomorrow!

Funny story: While on the eliptical at work yesterday, I was watching "Ellen" and literally LOLing. It was hilarious...Dennis Quiad had an earpiece in and had to repeat everything Ellen told him to say to the lunch delivery guy. So he was saying things like, "Dennis Quaid is hungry like a wolf...HOOOOWLLL!!!" and asking the guy, "Do you think I'm pretty?" It was pretty funny...as I'm smiling and laughing while working out, I'm thinking to myself I must look like an idiot but I figured no one was watching me. Well, I was WRONG!!! About 2 minutes after this thought, one of the guys I know asked me if I was laughing at him...."No! No! It's just Ellen!" It was pretty funny!

Side note: Less than two weeks until Stairway to Heaving...I'm getting kind of nervous! A co-worker (not the same that was disappointed with the auto flushing) brought in a magazine today and was like, "Look Alyssa! This magazine has a training program for beginners for a half-marathon!" I looked at it, kind of puzzled because never in my life have I ever said I wanted to run a half-marathon but she planted that seed. So I'm really considering starting a half-marathon training program but the only thing is the one that I'm looking at has the word "HILL" in it and that is beyond intimidating plus add 13.1 miles-yikes! So what do you all think? Am I crazy? Should I do it? Should I get real and stick to 5ks? Let me know your thoughts and comments!

I'm pretty conservative and scared so I'd prob stick to the 5k first! But you do whatever you think you can handle!
I love Ellen, she's fricken hilarous.

I've never successfully run a full 5K, but I'm already contemplating training for a half once the weather warms up. The L&C Half is in October, so that would give me plenty of time to train!

You should consider doing the Run for Sight 5K on May 2 to benefit the DG Center for Children with Visual Impairments! I'm running it, and I'm also the Sponsorship Committee Chair. :)

That would be fantastic to train and run for a half-marathon. I hope to do that one day--once the little kids realize that I am not cool and don't want my time and attention anymore.

I'd probably do a 5k first, but if you want to do a marathon, go for it!

And how awesome to have an elliptical at work!

I don't think it's crazy at all! My mom just ran her first half-marathon in December and from a former couch-potato, this was an amazing feat! She lost 80 lbs in 2008 and just decided she wanted to become a runner. So she began running and then set her sights on running a half-marathon.

If you have any questions or need some inspiration/motivation, I can totally give you my mom's e-mail. She'd love to talk to you about it!

I would also stick to the 5k first and then move on from there. But again, it's all what you think you can handle.

STICK WITH THE 5K! Do that, DOMINATE THEM, and then later on go on to a half marathon. :)

I want to get into 5ks but nobody will run with me. I run a "5k" (3.1 mi) on my treadmill every day so I don't know how hard it would be for me...probably VERY bc running outside is so different! So good for you for even attempting a 5k!

That stairway thing is hard core. I'm impressed that anyone would try it. I attempted the Rocky stairs when I lived in Philly and... Notsomuch.

Pardon my ignorance here, but which is longer, a 5k or half marathon?

Alyssa... I love reading your blog because it almost replaces our 5 minute convos at work in the early morning...

For instance, in response to this entry, I would have told you the same thing happened to me at the gym when I was watching the American Idol Audition shows. Only in my case the lady next to me was also laughing out loud and the insane man's Katy Perry impersonation.

...miss our chats.
