...so I've gotten into the Olympics despite my comment on Amanda's blog. I started watching Saturday night and wanted to post some thoughts on it thus far:
*Mogul-I really like this but holy hell-this has got to be HORRIBLE on your knees!!! As I was thinking that, the announcer would say, "And here's so-and-so skiing after their 6th knee surgery..." Wowser!!! I had one knee surgery and that's enough for me and I could never do this event...even BEFORE I'd had surgery!
*Speed skating-intense! Wouldn't you be pissed if you were skating and about to win then BAM! someone falls and takes you out? Also, it drives me crazy that Apolo's name only has one L!
*Seriously? Who makes up these events? Like curling or mogul? Do people sit around and say hmm...I have an idea for an Olympic event!
*I can't believe how flippin' young these people are!!! They said one person made their debut at age 11...can you imagine going to the Olympics at age 11???
Okay so there are my thoughts thus far...GO USA!!!

I totally agree about how random the events are. Even basic ones, like biathlon. Who sat around and said, let's see how fast they can ski, and how accurately they can shoot? It's just bizarre. And what exactly is the difference between pairs skating and ice dancing?!?!?
First, I LOVE the layout. Argyle is one of my favorite things. Second, my DH thinks Curling is the bee's knees. Finally, I am an Olympics junkie. My trainer and I were talking about the moguls and knee-surgeries. Crazy!
Oh oh! I know the difference between the skating classes. The pairs do jumps and stuff whereas the dancing is much more artistic and they are only allowed to do a few types of jumps and lifts.
Funny observations.
I have watched some of the Olympics and I never have gotten curling. I really don't care that it traces its history back to 1541--I am sure caveman stickball has a history, but that does not mean we want to see it as an Olympic sport.
I'm so with you on the moguls. I mean what kind of crazy person does that? Have you seen snowboard cross? That was on last night. Basically, 4 snowboarders start at once and have to fly around this crazy track and some of them wipe out. It's scary and amazing.
I also can't believe how young some of them are. The announcers say "so and so is 18 and it's his second Olympics" and I'm all...OH...I'm 30 and have been to 0 Olympics and also have done nothing else in life. Poo.
I'd like to think my awesome interpretation of the opening ceremonies is what did it for ya ;)
I'm not usually a huge Olympics fan, but i'm slowly getting into it!
I'm also shocked at how young everyone is!
I used to be a huge fan of the Olympics, but haven't been the the past few times. Hope that doesn't make me un-American. Eek. Lol.
So funny! The knee thing is exactly what I thought watching it and I was thinking lower back. This is my first year watching the Olympics and I really like it. Who woulda thought?
